La Playita in Venice

La Playita is a taco stand in Venice. It's on Lincoln just north of Rose on the Big Lots side. Every time we've driven by there's been a big line. Must be good, right?

I figure the best way to judge a new place is to start out with the classic carne asada taco followed by a carnitas taco. Mariscos is their thing, but I wanted to start out slow. I'll get the mariscos next time.

For $1.25 you get 2 corn tortillas, carne asada, and the onion-cilantro-lime combo thrown on top with some salsa rojo. It was delicious. The meat was tender, the red sauce not too spicy, with just enough of the greazy goodness that I was hoping for. There were a couple fatty bits, but a couple is OK in my book. This taco beats the ones we got from El Tarasco hands down.

The carnitas was a little dry. Ok, it was very dry. But very tasty. It came with the same look as the asada, but was a large chunk of meat. No fatty bits at all.

The place is not much to look at and the only places to sit are a bit undesirable. That being said, I sat there.

Definitely worth a revisit.
